Mynydd Mawr Fell Race

Race Report by Simon Edwards

Tuesday 28th April – Mynydd Mawr fell race

Four Buckley runners (plus guest appearance by Justin) made the long trek to Y Fron (inland from Caernarfon) for this evening race. The village has a staggering backdrop of Snowdonia that is inspiring though its somewhat forlorn appearing was a little depressing too!

The cool and windy conditions added to this surprisingly lengthy evening race. A bracing pre-race shower required runners to cower behind cars though fortunately it passed just prior to the race start.

88 runners started and finished the course which consisted of a longish undulating trail and then a long climb to the summit of Mynydd Mawr and then a return along the same route. The cool weather was offset by the warmth offered by the local community in the school after the race and completed an enjoyable evening.

Fell racing is more about the joy of the challenge rather than times or positions (that is my excuse and a stubbornly refuse to release it), but for the record some decent results all round – including age category prizes for Steve and John
