Presentation Evening 2018

Friday 1st June saw the annual Buckley Runners Presentation Evening take place at The Old Padeswood Golf Club. Awards were aplenty as were the celebratory drinks as over one hundred members were in attendance not only for the awards presentation but to celebrate another fantastic and successful season for the club.

The hospitality and catering from Old Padeswood was second to none with Buckley Runners very own Connor Donoghue providing the soundtrack that had everyone dancing the night away!

Onto the awards where Master of Ceremonies came in the shape of Chairman Rob Mackay. Awards for the night were for Borders League, Cross Country, Club Championships and the prestigious Members Award. Our Lady Captain Ceri Cook collected the award for 1st Lady in both Borders League and Cross Country. Lady’s Borders League runners up were Jane Doughton and Margaret Ludden. Margaret also picked up a runners up trophy in the Lady’s Cross Country alongside Dawn Urquart.

Men’s Borders League winner was overall winner Ricky Challinor in his first season in the blue vest of Buckley followed closely by Elliot Cox and Mens Captain Chris Callaghan. The ‘Skipper’ also placed in the Cross Country narrowly missing out on top spot to Steve Toogood. Eddie Davies also picking up a trophy in the Cross Country.

Men’s Cross Country Masters trophy was won by Buckley stalwarts John Morris with Jack Thomas in 2nd place.

Club championship winner came again from Lady Captain Ceri Cook with Jane Doughton picking up 2nd place. Men’s winner was Buckley’s ‘Running Machine’ Jez Brown with Elliot Cox taking 2nd spot.

The most prestigious and anticipated award of the evening was the Members Award where the winner is voted for by their peers and fellow Buckley members. The Chairman was complimentary to all nominees and read a few statements for their contributions to the club. Les Coathup and Andrew Barnard picked up Merit Awards for their services and contributions to the club as a whole. However, the spotlight for Members award was shared this year between Dave Wootton who was recognised for his dedication to the club, run leadership and organisation of Castles Relay and Club Championships and the hugely inspirational Steph Brown who having gone from being a non runner a couple of years ago to completing her first full marathon through sheer hard work, commitment and determination.

Lastly, a big thank you to our Social Event Lead Claire Campbell for organising yet another great presentation evening. Claire has spent a lot of time making sure that the night went smoothly and without a hitch. Thank you Claire it is greatly appreciated!

Thanks to all who attended and congratulations to all of the trophy winners!
