What a great ending to the Borders League 2023/24 season. As a club we went into Sunday’s final fixture with healthy leads in the Men’s senior division one and Men’s vet division; we had a chance to do the treble by picking up the Women’s vet title!

For the men it was just making sure we didn’t produce the biggest bottle job in BL history. Thankfully the chaps got their counters in and put in a professional performance to bring home the titles, with 4th (senior) and 5th (vets) on the day finishes securing the men’s double.

This was the first men’s senior title since that famous 2018/19 season when we won the lot, and a first men’s vets title since the curtailed 2019-20 covid season.

Our Women vets on the other hand had it all to play for. After a couple of big performances at race 3 and 4, we went into the final fixture with a chance. We started the day second with a 23 point gap to close.

Not only was the gap closed, but a quite remarkable effort saw us taking the title with a gap of 38 to second place. A 61 point swing. Our women vets won the day too, with all four counters in before any other team had two home!! Quite remarkable, indeed.

This is a first women’s vet title since the aforementioned 2018/19 quad season.

Our Senior ladies also had a good day. The ladies won the division one title last season, but couldn’t repeat. Deeside ladies have just been relentless this season. Congratulations to them on an impressive season and much deserved title.

The final race of our title defence saw us picking up a victory in the day. A reminder of what we’re capable of and something to build on for 2024/25.

Well done to the 27 Buckley runners who ran Hoylake on Sunday, and to all 57 members who proudly represented our club in at least one of the six races this season.
