Chairman

Charles Barton

Ever since Charles finally took up his wife’s invitation to come along to BRC training night and see if he liked running, he hasn’t looked back. That cold winter night in 2017 was the start of his love for running. Charles genuinely cares for the sport, the club and the community of Buckley. Having first joined in 2017/18, he was honoured to take over as chairman in 2023/24, following long serving chairman Rob Mackey’s decision to stand down. As chairman, he is responsible for supporting all aspects of the club and ensuring the best interests of the club and its members are followed at all times.
Treasurer

Sue Ridings

Sue joined Buckley in 1997 after undertaking a “race for life” and has never looked back. She continues her role as Club Treasurer, where she is responsible for ‘holding the purse strings’. Her role involves all matters relating to income and spends within the club, this also includes providing financial reports and advising tracking activities requiring spend.
Secretary

Dave Wooton

Newly appointed, Dave’s in-depth knowledge of races, paces and distances will come in handy for his role as club secretary. Along with organisational skills and as someone who is always prepared to ‘put himself out’. As Secretary Dave is also responsible for the day to day administration of the club and is the link between the club and Welsh Athletics/UKA to ensure that we meet the requirements placed on us by the governing body.
Membership Secretary

Becks Brown

As our Membership Secretary, Becks is responsible for all matters relating to memberships. This includes processing new members, submitting and co-ordinating with Welsh Athletics, renewals and club transfers. Membership and Transfer forms can be found on our website, but if you have any queries, please contact Becks.
Development Lead

Eric Campbell

Our newly appointed Development Lead has been running for years and has some excellent running achievements under his belt. This will, of course, come in handy for his new role which will involve managing the training within the club. Along with his team of ‘run leaders’, the aim is to ensure the framework allows all members of the club to develop. It also includes organisation, communication and safety of club training sessions.

Media & Publicity Lead

Andrew Peers

Andrew has been with the club for about 5 years after bumping into a group of friendly Buckley runners whilst out on a solo run. He has an IT background, and was recently appointed to look after the website for the club, and is responsible for overseeing the clubs interactions with the public by implementing social media platforms.

Social Events Lead

Claire Campbell

Claire’s detailed planning and organisational skills make her perfect for her role as the club Social Events Lead. Claire is responsible for the organisation of none-running related events, club social events, annual meetings and fundraisers including location and managing costs.

Male Safeguarding Officer

Jez Brown

Jez was a junior member of Buckley Runners a few years ago, returning in later life as a veteran runner, and has been a keen member since 2007. Never happier than when running through mud or up hills, he also enjoys the occasional run on the road and is a prolific race attender.

Jez has worked as a social worker for over 20 years, more recently in youth justice. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, with the safeguarding officer role involving oversight of policies, sharing information, and responding to any concerns raised by or on behalf of members to ensure that the needs of children, vulnerable adults and any members of the community are safeguarded. Further details of the role and how to get advice are included in the safeguarding section of this website.

Female Safeguarding Officer

Nicole van den Wittenboer

Nicole started running with a gym-based club in 2006 whilst living in South Manchester. From the start, while just about managing to keep going for 5k, she soon realised she didn’t really enjoy going all-out and got more enjoyment from running for longer. Six months after joining, Nicole ran her first half marathon and another 18 months later, she completed her first marathon. Between 2008 and 2015, she ran 8 marathons in some amazing places in the world, including London, Berlin and New York.

In 2014, Nicole moved to Hawarden and joined Buckley Runners. By then, having a family with two primary-school-aged boys, her focus changed from her to their sports pursuits, which included karate, hockey, ice skating and trampolining. Fortunately, the whole family has since got involved with Wepre parkrun which has sparked the whole family’s love for running.

These days, her running is slow and hard work, haha, and she mostly enjoys encouraging other people, preferably running off-road in our beautiful local hills. Please contact Nicole if you are interested in joining our Couch to 5k programme for new runners.

Men’s Captain

Chris Callaghan

He will often be found at the front of the pack, with his relaxed and smiley happy running style, ‘Cally’ just makes it look too easy. He is very sociable and straight talking, which will come in handy for his role as Men’s Captain. Here he will be responsible for rallying and rounding up the men for club races, or ‘herding cats’ as it’s otherwise known.

Ladies Captain

Jane Doughton

Jane started running about 15 years ago and trotted along solo until 2017. She was persuaded to pop along to Buckley Runners and has never looked back. Jane loves donning her Buckley blues to represent the club in Borders League and Cross Country and loves nothing more than seeing the team spirit at these fixtures. More recently Jane has had the honour of representing Wales and North Wales and strongly believes that these opportunities are down to the coaching, support and friendships she has made since joining Buckley.

  Race Director

Phil Tugwell

Phil is Race Director of our Borders League race. This means he is responsible for not only organising the race, but also ensuring everything runs smoothly on the day.

Cross Country Rep

Simon Roberts

A Buckley member since 2005, Simon has run over 700 races in the blue vest. He enjoys all forms of running equally, from track to road to fell to ultras – which is probably why he isn’t very good at any of them. A long-standing advocate of real ale as a primary recovery drink. Author of ‘Fell Running in Wales’, he also tries to stay on top of member’s results.

Fell & Multi Terrain Rep

Amanda Boyd

For Amanda running is very much a social activity – whether racing or just meeting up on Wednesday evenings or any time the chance arises. Amanda enjoys all types of running, but prefers the trails and hills and can often be found scampering around the local hills alone with her trusty Airedale terrier. Running should be fun first and foremost and you’ll often find her hunting for a local pub following a race to relax.
Borders League Rep

Eric Campbell

On top of his development Lead responsibilities, Eric is also our Borders League Rep. This involves acting as point of contact for all matters Borders League, as well as attending the AGM representing Buckley, ensuring all runners wishing to participate understand what is involved.
Club Championship

Dave Wootton

As our Club Championship lead, Dave is responsible for ensuring the Club Championship is updated with races for 2023-24 and then calculating and updating the scores on a regular basis.
