Lyn y Fan Fach

*** Race Report by Andy Pritchard ***

The Buckley raiders about to start the Lyn y Fan Fach fell race on Saturday 11th November, down in the black mountains of Carmarthenshire.

This was a ‘sprint’ race consisting of 5.6 miles and 2000 feet of ascent but the real test was the conditions. Extremely wet and heavy underfoot coupled with low dense fog meaning nAvigation and route choice became critical.

The pressure was on as this was the last counter race in the S Wales series and Welsh open championships and we all had high category positions to defend. I’m happy to report we all performed admirably?. Jez took no chances and won the race! I finished 9th to record my first top ten finish in a Welsh open champs race. Hayley finished 15th and was First Lady home. John remarkably finished well over 10 minutes ahead of his nearest vet 70 rival.

There then followed an anxious wait whilst the series and champs scores were totalled up. However, yet again Buckley blue plundered the (virtual) prizes. A summary of the results is below-

S Wales champs

  • Jez Brown – 2nd overall and vet 40 champ
  • Andy Pritchard – 3rd overall and 2nd vet 40
  • Hayley Evans – 5th overall And ladies champ
  • John Morris – vet 70 champ

Welsh open champs (provisional placings)

  • Jez brown – 3rd overall and vet 40 champ
  • Simon Roberts – 6th overall and 2nd vet 40
  • Andy Pritchard – 8th overall and 4th vet 40
  • Hayley Evans – Welsh open ladies champ
  • John Morris – vet 70 champ

A fabulous day, quite simply never prouder to be a Buckley blue????
